- Are ionic liquids an alternative plasticizer for PVC?
- Ionic liquids as alternative plasticizers for PVC: flexibility and stability in thermal, leaching and ultraviolet Environments. In: Brazel CS, Rogers RD, editors. Ionic liquids in polymer systems: solvents, additives and novel applications. American Chemical Society symposium series, vol. 913. Washington, DC: Am Chem Soc; 2005. p. 103–18.
- Are room temperature ionic liquids a plasticizer for poly (vinyl chloride)?
- Room temperature ionic liquids (ILs), based on ammonium, imidazolium and phosphonium cations, were studied as novel plasticizers for poly (vinyl chloride), PVC. All the ILs tested were able to produce flexible PVC.
- Can PVC products be blended with nanoparticles and ionic liquids?
- The technology of PVC products blended with nanoparticles and ionic liquids is simple and the cost is low, but the blending of nanoparticles and ionic liquids reduces other performances of PVC products, such as water tolerance, transparency and mechanical property.
- Do ionic liquids change modulus after plasticizer loss due to leaching?
- From this standpoint, many of the ionic liquids showed good behavior, in that the flexibility of the PVC samples changed the least. However, another way of looking at the data is that the plasticizers with high plasticizing efficiency will cause the greatest changes in modulus after plasticizer loss due to leaching.
- Does internal plasticization play a role in PVC lubrication?
- Tg of PVC grafted with 75 wt% of cardanol based internal plasticizer reaches 42 °C, which suggests internal plasticizing effect is played in the system . Fig. 5 shows the mechanism of internal plasticization according to the lubrication theory. PVC chains are tangled up, which makes these chains hard to move.
- Are plasticizers able to produce Flexible PVC?
- All the ILs tested were able to produce flexible PVC. Upon 20 wt% plasticization, some of the ILs lowered the glass transition temperature ( Tg) of PVC more than that done by several traditional plasticizers. They showed good thermodynamic compatibility as well.
